Should I continue Nano? and finally an excerpt

It's been a few days since I've posted how i'm doing for National Writing Month.
Not really in a slump going into the third week, but the story as written if you can believe it, is nearly done.

Since the current plot and original outline begin as Jace and Sara have broken up, I feel that the story would be better served if I showed the reader their entire story including how they broke up rather than just telling it through the characters. (Thanks to Jill Noble at Noble Romance Publishing for giving new writers these tips in recent interviews and on her radio show! A must for any new writer.)

And that introduces us to Lil. Sara's best friend and a single mother. She's a complex character that I have had a blast writing the last few days.

The way I have her in my story now she's a minor player, but in actuality she's a huge reason for why the main characters are struggling at the moment.

I'm very proud of this story and I don't want rush it. Jace, Sara, Matt and the rest of the characters are so three dimensional and a lot of fun to write.
So I'm going to finish it, re-outline, tighten it up a lot, and re-work it. And finally, because i've promised...(sorry it's rough...be warned now)
Here's an excerpt between Sara and Jace at the beginning of the first chapter. Enjoy and comment freely!!!

Part of Ch 1 One!!!

A center, and co-captain of the Junior league team called the Haverton Mustangs, the Haverton Falls Classic held every Christmas Day was in Jace’s opinion, his last chance at ever getting signed with a pro team.
His mind reminisced with a bit of sadness at the years he wasted being short-tempered, overly confident and a hard partier.
With his athletic body and ebony colored hair, the chestnut brown eyes attempted to remain focus on the task at hand.
The sun rose over the Lake, turning it gradually to a light purple hue. Continuing to practice drills along a imaginary blue line that he could only see, Jace felt confident that he and his team would beat the Macon Wildcats for the Classic Cup easily.
Ninety minutes now passed and Jace was finishing up his conditioning drills with a long skate around the Lake before he went home.
She passed by him in a pink flash. So quickly, that he did a double take. The look of accomplishment and contentment he had suddenly turned into a look of disdain and dread for the young woman that skirted past him.
They were together for a year. Never had he fell so hard for someone. She was young at 20, he was young at 22. The things they did to one another hurt and complicated things between them. She loved him so intensely. He wanted to commit to being a couple, but couldn’t do it without his temper or giving her a ridiculous ultimatium.
Wearing a pink parka jacket with a white hat and gloves, Sara Reilly skated around her ex-boyfriend taunting him relentlessly. Jace’s eyes narrowed, his lips pursed tightly as to not say something more offensive to her than he normally did.
“What the hell are you doing here Sara?”
She laughed. ”Skating. And you Jace?”
He began to skate away from her. He was in no mood to deal drama. Especially from her.
“Leaving!”
She stopped directly in front of him, her blue eyes locked mischievously with his.
For most people the look Jace was giving her would twart them away, however she ignored it and in fact reveled in it.
Jesting, she replied. “Aww, not now. I was going to see if you wanted to play with me a little before you went to practice.”
He rolled his eyes and continued off the ice. She quickly trailed behind him in an attempt to catch up.
“Oh c’mon Jace, I’m teasing. You know me.”
“Yeah, unfortunately I do. “

as of 11/11 doing ok

i had problems with the 5th chapter of my story, i've always had issues w/descriptions and it at times it takes me forever to write or describe exactly how a scene is playing around my head.
But tonight, after working on it. I think i got it and was able to move on.
So much that I wrote tonight 2,2021 giving me a word count so far 14,557. I wanted to be at 15,000 today.
But due to real life...I'll take it.

1748 words 11/4

I had a really good night writing wise...I really do like my story a lot.
Normally introverted, my main character Jace finally opened up about his father's illness and how his mother leaving angered him.
Pretty good for a rough, rough draft.
Total word count as of 11/4. 9522

11/3 Update 1042 words

Okay.....Not the goal I intended for tonight which was for 1700 but the third chapter was hard to start. Still not crazy about the description at the beginning, but i'l definitely fix that after NaNo is over. knowing me probably before....

Total count for three days. 7,754

11/2 NaNo Update 2055 words oh yeah!

Total word count for Day Two 2,055! Making total word count so far 6712

The story is coming along very very well. Especially the dialogue. Writing for a character like Jace is a lot of fun because his wit just bites. The dynamic between he and Sara is great.
The only thing I wish now is that I started the story with how they actually got together in the beginning.
Chapter 2 ended for me on a therapeutic note.
I wasn't going to write about terminal illness at the moment due to my father's recent death. But for some reason the sub-plot in this story needed to be told and so far it's been great.
I know i promised an excerpt but I'm just too tired.
Good night!

Meet Jace and Sara

Meet Jace McKinnon...

Sexy, overly confident with a short temper. Jace, at the moment has a lot on his plate these days. Captain of his Junior League Hockey Team, called the Haverton Mustangs, Jace is on track to become a top draft pick for the NHL.
But will an ill father, mounting medical bills and relationship that won't die, end his ability to focus on what's important?

Sara Reilly

Headstrong and just as stubborn as her ex-boyfriend. Sara's concern for her ex boyfriend, is making her lose focus on placing in Regionals. A favorite to win and go onto the National Championships, will she also put her hopes one the line for Jace?

NaNo Status 11/1

Wow what a day!
I'm very proud for my first 24 hrs of NaNo to have gone so well. At 8 o clock, I ended with a word count of 4,657 words.

Not bad for person who listened to her inner editor at the last minute and changed her story plans all together.

So no paranormal werewolf story or dragon story.

This story is a contemporary romance called "On the Line" about a Junior hockey player named Jace McKinnon, who while dealing with a cancer stricken father and dealing with the pressures of leading his team to victory at the annual Haverton Falls Classic, has fallen in love with his best friend's sister named Sara Reilly, who in her own right is a favorite to win at her Regional championship, held in their fictional hometown of Haverton Falls, New York.

The two are two opposites that attract. They argue over everything, regardless of how little or small the problem is. When they're together it is good, very good. When they aren't, god help the people around them both.

The story without giving much away, begins a year after they break up. When both with weeks to spare are training for their respective competitions.

Here's a look at the main characters.
